This is a short feature that brings light to recent comments made by councillors who voted on the rejected Camden Islamic School in 2007. The developers (The Qu’ranic) society took the council to the Land and Environment Court in an attempt to reverse the decision. The court found that the council was right to deny the Qu’ranic society a chance to build a school in the area, as it would detract from the local rural character. But somewhat startlingly, councillors have said in the past week that Camden lost it’s rural identity a long time ago, raising fresh speculation over why the school didn’t go ahead.
